Is it possible that only the changed files are published?
I have to backup my templates and syntax files every time I install or copy a new version. Then I can see if a template has been changed or not.
Maybe an update mechanism from within TextEd that checks the website?

I think that would be a great feature, but you may have to backup your syntax files anyway if you want to check the new files out and see what has been changed.Maybe an update mechanism from within TextEd that checks the website?
About the templates, just rename them. Save your own templates with a unique name and they woun't be overwritten or erased when you update.
