Continuing with markdown anomalies...
Hopefully you have addressed these issues with the new fix, but I'll pass it to you anyway, as another test case...
this was a discussion (Claude AI) about Windows message handlers; I saved the summary as a `.md` file, and it appears that every time RJTE hits an underscore character (commonly buried in Windows message-handler names), it toggles between default and some other color...

Re: FIXED: V16.67 - syntax hiliting stumbles - html file
Okay, a summary of my pending .md issues, and 16.68b1 status:
- table format bar in wrong color - fixed
- "Em dash" characters cause color to switch to default - fixed, apparently by making the "Em dash" character undefined (displays diamond with question mark).
Relevant to this issue: I have language set to "Unicode (UTF-8) without signature (BOM)"
- file links are drawn in default color, sometimes - that status is unchanged from 16.67.
See the "issues.md" file that I uploaded earlier
- Underscore characters in text cause current color to toggle between default and some other color - still present.
See attached image.

This is a Markdown-Problem in general, there are some different markdown interpreters and they use chaotic standards on italic-textDerellLicht1 wrote: 28 Sep 2026 17:35 [...]

https://www.markdownlang.com/basic/emphasis.htmlBasic Emphasis Syntax
Italic
Use a single asterisk * or underscore _ to wrap text:
*italic text*
_italic text_
Rendered Output:italic text italic text
Bold
Use double asterisks ** or double underscores __ to wrap text:
**bold text**
__bold text__
Rendered Output:bold text bold text
Bold and Italic
Use three asterisks *** or three underscores ___, or mix them:
***bold italic text***
___bold italic text___
**_bold italic text_**
*__bold italic text__*
Rendered Output:bold italic text bold italic text bold italic text bold italic text
https://docs.github.com/en/get-started/ ... yling-textItalic * * or _ _ Command+I (Mac) or Ctrl+I (Windows/Linux) _This text is italicized_ This text is italicized
and many more use single underscore for italic text.
some also use double underscore, others use ** or what ever
see also https://www.markdownguide.org/basic-syntax/#italic ... markdown is chaotic in this.
then again here https://daringfireball.net/projects/markdown/syntax#em this is widely used in example by pandoc ... similar to github same by common mark spec https://commonmark.org/help/ they all use single underscore
In your example the terms with underscore are some code, if you have some influence on your output, to warp code in to backticked code is may the best solution.
`blah_blih_blup`
so the whole thing should appear as well formatted markdown as code.

Re: FIXED (partially): V16.67 - syntax hiliting stumbles - html file
Well... that may all be true, but I'm still hoping to get RJTE to display this correctly... where "correctly" is defined as handle the condition the same every time...
I don't care what any other program does wrong...

We could make sure a single underscore character is always preceded by a space or symbol.
E.g. swap the line below in the syntax file "Markdown.syx"
E.g. swap the line below in the syntax file "Markdown.syx"
Code: Select all
13_Start=(?<![\w\\])(\_[A-Za-z])- DerellLicht1

Re: FIXED (partially): V16.67 - syntax hiliting stumbles - html file
OOOOoooohhhh.... I think that worked!!
The only pending issues that I have left, are both quite minor; I'll mention them below, you can act on them or not as strikes your fancy; I wouldn't be surprised if you are completely sick of markdown syntax, and don't want to spend time on it any more!!!
- first: the paths for file links, are now all a consistent color - but it's not the markdown color, it's the default color; thus, the displayed text is in one color, the link is in another color. Honestly, I don't even know if that is expected behavior or not!! Here's an example:
- second: this actually was mentioned recently, I think by @ScrKiddle ...
If there is table data that extends off right edge of screen, it is in table color, but if word wrap (what he calls "word warp") is turned on, the wrapped lines are in default color... it's not the end of the world, but it *is* a bit disconcerting!!
If you decide *not* to deal with these to issues, go ahead and remove the "(partially)" from the top-level message...
